Book editors are expected to have a degree in English Comp, Journalism, or a related field. Literary agents, however, are not actually required to have any sort of degree. Which really surprised me. The whole reson I enrolled at NVCC was to gain either a business or marketing degree because I thought that it would make me more competative in this career field. The one thing I did learn that seems a bit contradictory to the education requirements is that most literary agents were first book editors.

The degree I am working toward at NVCC is not transferable to a four year institution as part of a Bachelors degree. I am not  particuarly concerned with that however. My education through NVCC is really intended to give me a background and tools that I believe will be invaluable in my future career plans.
